These newswire photos were taken in their dressing room at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York in 1952. Vivien Leigh, in costume for Antony and Cleopatra, listens to the Oscars broadcast live over the radio (L), then raises the roof when she is announced the winner of the Best Actress of 1951 for her performance as Blanche DuBois in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (R). Greer Garson was on hand to accept Vivien’s statue for her, and it was presented to her at a special ceremony in London in May 1952.
